Job Updates on your Cell Phone: Take Me Home Meets Twitter
Written by Justin Seibert from http://www.directom.com/internet-marketing-blog on July 17th, 2008 | 2 CommentsWe’ve been fiddling around with a new jobs feed for twitter and (think) we finally have it working. Now you can follow new job updates and more on twitter. “What’s Twitter you ask?”
Twitter is the most popular of a series of new social media sites that offer “micro-blogging.” I’m not personally a fan of that term, but that’s what the media seems to be using. I think a better description offered by someone in my office (sorry all – I can’t remember who – Sarah maybe?) is instant messaging for your cell phone.
When you set up a free account on twitter, you can enter in text – or sms – messages limited to 140 characters into the interface for everyone on your network to see. You choose who you follow and whom you allow to follow you.
If you already twitter or think you’d like to test it out, sign up for an account and follow us. If we have it set up correctly, it should be fairly useful. Also let me know what other information you’d like us to tweet out.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about and don’t care, check back to our blog next week for more news on the Ohio Valley and career opportunities here.
You know twitter’s getting popular because junk accounts with pictures of alluring women are popping up like crazy. Our twitter account is already being followed by over 20 people from outside our area, who tweet gobbldygook and all have the same picture. Who knew we had so many twins interested in Ohio Valley career opportunities, stella102 and macey121?

Or how about you, diane 354 and laura434?

Seriously spammers – you can’t even take the time to rename the images differently with a name that matches the account name?

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

Alright – I never approve spam, but I had to let this one in. Spammy comment right after the end of the post talks about spam. Not that he read the post anyway.
Wait a minute, I take that back. Eric said that he “found my blog on google and read a few of your other posts.” Plus he “added [the Ohio Valley jobs blog] to [his] Google News Reader.” And he wants me to “Keep up the good work.” And he looks “forward to reading more from [our OH, PA, and WV jobs blog] in the future.”
He likes me. He really likes me!
Oh – I guess I did make one edit, taking out his link. Eric probably won’t mind, though. He just wanted to let me know how much he liked this blog. Eric, if I’m wrong and I really did upset you, please accept my sincerest apologies. Just let me know with a tweet.
